Who is really popular

Kenyan newspapers have of late dedicated hectares of space to ODM-K wrangling. The fight has been over the torch bearer. That is the person to tackle Kibaki in December 2007 elections. As I write, Kibaki and his pips have only three strategies for winning. The first is a 24 hours 7 days a week prayer that ODM breaks up, if that fails then it will be bribery (remember referendum) and last but not least, I suspect, outright rigging.

There is a warped argument that KM and his entourage are advancing within ODM that scares me to death. But if you are a tribalist then you will not find a problem with it. Neither will you find a problem with the argument if yours is only to remove Kibaki from power.

The argument is that if KM is the presidential candidate he will receive 100 percent of the votes in Eastern while also bagging the same in Nyanza. If the torch bearer is R then ODM will only get 30 percent of the votes in Eastern and 100 percent in Nyanza. In other words, everything equal, KM will have 70 percent more votes than R. This in turn means he will not struggle beating Kibaki.

Why this warped argument? Does it reflect something about the people of Nyanza and Eastern province in general or does it only say one of two things about KM and R’s leadership styles and their positions in the heart of the people?

If R is able to convince the people of Nyanza to vote for KM to the man just as they voted for Kibaki, why can’t KM do the same in Eastern province? While R can openly and without fear ask Nyanza people to vote for whomever ODM fairly and freely elects, the same cannot be said of KM. I believe he sings another song all together i.e. if it is not “me” then make sure that whoever wins (read R) fails in the presidential race. It’s sick.

What I’m trying to say is that if KM is popular as he claims, then he should be able to sway opinion in his own backyard. That’s why he is part of a team because he is expected to bring something to the table. The question of sitting back and announcing to the world that most of his people will not vote for R is to put it mildly stupid and mind boggling. Why did “his” people vote overwhelmingly for the National Rainbow Coalition (Narc) even though KM was not the torch bearer? Well, perhaps it was because of Charity Ngilu. It is upon KM to make sure that 100 percent of Easterners vote for ODM even if R is its torch bearer just as much it’s for MM to convince westerners and Balala people at the coast.

If 70 percent of the voters of Eastern province were to vote for another person other than R (if KM remained in the same party as R), then I would not blame them (people of Eastern province). My blame would be directed towards KM his leadership style and his rebellious attitude towards people from other provinces, specifically Nyanza. KM can fight R but insulting a whole community with reckless utterances, especially if he is looking forward to becoming president some day, serves no purpose. It was the same KM who asked Jakoyo Midiwo to go and tell R the he does not want anything to do with Balala or Mudavadi joining the race?

Lets for a moment assume that only 30 percent of Easterners vote for R but he wins all the same, even though by a small margin. How would KM face R again? Could they ever work together at all? This is why I believe that R/KM partnership must come to an end. They must call it a day and look for other options.

If we assume that all the aspirants’ have bought shares in ODM then I also suppose that dividends must be in direct proportion to ones investment. You don’t expect more by putting in less. But again, tribal politics is not that logical.

What happened to the “free and fair elections” KM used to talk of day in day out? He now wants to be “toshwad”, his only qualification being the length of his foreskin. How free and fair.

Raila must not agree to blackmail

The Nation Newspaper reported that, “Mr Maanzo (read Kalonzo Musyoka) asked Prof Nyong’o and Mr Kosgey to accept to being de facto leaders while his group remained de jure”.

It seems to me that KM is out to do “a Ngilu” in case he is defeated in the ODM elections. He would like to make sure that whoever wins (read R) will be left without a political vehicle.

The registrar was right to reject ODM-K application on the account that there was complain from within. It, however, beats logic why Maanzo should go to the court instead of taking up the matter within ODM. Afterall new party officials had been elected openly, in the presence of Maanzo. It had also been agreed in the presence of both KM and Maanzo that all papers pertaining to the party be handed over to the new officials.

It appears to me that KM had seen his imminent defeat and exit from ODM-K long before it became “public”. He has therefore been making preparations for the exit but not without taking with him ODM-K. KM understands that he does not have what it takes to build and popularize a new party. He therefore wants to pull the rag under his colleague’s feet by holding on to the party just as Charity Ngilu did with National Rainbow Coalition (Narc).

This action just as the proclamation of a luos “ineluctability” is being done clumsily, recklessly and without any finesse. Apart from that, it’s too early in the game to play such porker or karata for that matter.

My interpretation is that KM is only going through the motions; his heart is far away with Kibaki and Uhuru, that’s where he actually wants to belong. But he has to have apolitical vehicle to transport him to the named. That vehicle is ODM-K, hence Maanzo’s behaviour.

R and the like minded aspirants (to use Kombos lingo) should sit down and find away of either short circuiting Maanzo’s moves or jump the ODM ship completely. Parties without strong people like R are just but empty shells. Look at Safina, SDP, F-Asili, Narc and to some extent kanu.

Nothing good has come out of the so called consensus talks as I write. Why waste more time. Ruto (has thrown in the towel), KM, MM, Ojiambo, Ninajibu, Nyagah and R should all get ready to rock and roll (using the delegates system). I for one will support the winner even it were KM if he beats others via the delegates system. Even though I will be fully aware that nothing would change. And that all the gains made by Kibaki would be lost.

Mbona wakini MM wame kaa kimia wakati huu ODM inayotishwa kunyakuliwa? Ni kwanini hawaneni? Mbona hawamzui huyu baradhuli Maanzo kuleta matata kwa chama? Hata hivyo lahaula, wahenge walihenga kwamba “fumbo mfumbe mjinga mwerevu huligangua” .

OBS! News reaching me from Nairobi has it that the meeting between R and Ngilu is causing such a murmur with KMs people that they are thinking of sending a delegation to the later to warn her of isolation if she keeps on driving a wedge between R and KM. What KMs gusy don’t realise is that she is such a kigeugeu. Mara she is talking to R mara she is doing her thing with Kibaki.

POLITICS OF SHAME

Raila Odinga has reached a point where he has to, on behalf of all right thinking Kenyans face the issue of a “luo should not be elected” squarely and without fear. I, however, like the way he has of late approached the issue, head on and without fear. When President John F. Kennedy was declared unelectable by some in USA due to his catholic background, he did not hide away from the episode or tried pushing it under the table. He faced it head on.

John F. Kennedy said; “….I want to emphasize from the outset that we have far more critical issues to face in the election; …….the hungry children …., the old people who cannot pay their doctor bills, the families forced to give up their farms…. too many slums, with too few schools……. These are the real issues which should decide this campaign”.

It’s a pity the trio (MM, KM and WR) think that the only way to get to the top is to use tribalism. Why can’t they articulate how they are in a better position to tackle insecurity, hunger, poverty, disease etc? Because these should be the issues which will make them win the contest.

For once, I agree with Uhuru Kenyatta (ingawa ni kigeugeu sana, yuko ODM ama Kanu?) who has now seen that consensus is but bulls-t. R on the other hand has taken his case to the people for they are the ones who will elect him or not. All should face the ballot. "Mpaka debe iamue. Kila mtu anayegombea kiti asingoje kupewa kiti kwa boardroom (The ballot box must decide. Let no aspirant imagine that he will win the candidature in a boardroom)," Raila declared amid cheers from enthusiastic supporters

The above named trio should not talk of the tribes they belong to or the condition of their foreskin. To lay claim to ones foreskin as the basis of good leadership is to say the least, outright stupid. In fact a person whose brains are permeated with such rubbish has more or less shown that he has no capacity to think straight and beyond the box. Tribalism should not be a tool of campaign. There are pressing social and economic matters that must take the centre stage.
According to JFK, “…..war and hunger and ignorance and despair know no religious barriers.….So it is apparently necessary for me to state once again--not what kind of church I believe in, for that should be important only to me--but what kind of America I believe in”.
The notion that a luo cannot lead because he is a luo has no scientific basis and should not be allowed to prevail. No tribe should be denied a chance to aspire to be whatever they would like to be on the basis of tribe. The luhya should not be denied their rights simply because of backward and retrogressive belief by some Kenyans that they (luhyas) can only make good watchmen, the belief that Kikuyu are thieves should not be trusted with leadership should be shunned etc. These are stuff that are left for the “uwanja wa mchonguano” and not taken seriously, especially in a presidential campaign, where every vote counts. Nobody should impose his culture or belief on other people.

JFK concluded “…. I believe in a President whose religious views are his own private affair, neither imposed by him upon the nation or imposed by the nation upon him as a condition to holding that office.”

The trio wanted to do a MKM on R, only that they showed their hand too early in the game; thereby leaving themselves open to ridicule. Lakini ngoja, hivi karibuni utawaona wamekutana press konfrens kukanusha madia kwamba ni watanda miongo ya ukabili.
“Fear not democracy my brothers and sisters” Raila Odinga.

Ballot to decide ODM contest, says Raila

I do not think that those asking Raila to step down for Kalonzo or Mudavadi have considered the mans history. I for one being a Raila supporter feels completelly insulted by such a suggestion. However you compare and contrast the three, Raila Odinga comes at the top. His democratic credentials and his passion for change or transformation of the country is second to none. Not only in ODM but Kenya as a whole. Besides, the man has his hands on the pulse of the nation. The problem is that former president Moi, Kibaki and the secret service have entered into a pact to stop Raila being president. They have been funding both Mudavadi and Kalonzos campaigns while Ruto is being threatened with a court case which might land him in jail. Let all presidential candidates go for the ballot. Raila puts it this way, "I am not quitting the race, never. We are all in the field. Why should I quit … quit in favour of whom? I assure my supporters that I won’t let them down. Let me clarify that I have never been asked by anybody to give up the race in favour of my brother Musalia Mudavadi or Kalonzo Musyoka," nuff sed

Consensus or Ballot

Fearing that Raila would make chapati of him if the ballot was used to nominate an ODM candidate, Kalonzo says "The Government will make mince meat of us if we allow ourselves to go to a contest. Consensus is the most viable option, then take the decision of the council of elders to delegates for ratification or otherwise," The above pictured house aka state house will still remain elusive to teh likes of Kalonzo if they dont shape up and stop the dilly dallying

ODM still in the trenches

Raila defeats his competitors so thorughly they becoming childishly jittery. According to the Standard Newspaper, "A rally that was planned for Nairobi’s Kamukunji grounds to bring together all aspirants was cancelled when some aspirants complained that it would give Lang’ata MP, Mr Raila Odinga mileage, given his clout in the city".

Wakati umefika, kumtupilia mbali Uhuru Kenyatta. Uhuru hatuongezei wala hatupunguzii. Nimenena

Masenge au "Basha"

I once in the magazine, New Africa, that there is no black african language which has a name for GAY. Its also true that majority of Africans are not and dont even understand the gay thing. However, in the recent times there has been an increase of those coming out of the "closet" even if they are just but a few. My question to you is: are gays "born" or "made". Is being gay a chosen lifestyle or is one born that way? I put the question across because there is controversy sorrounding this issue in Africa. Infact its only in South Africa where this thing is legal.

Mungiki bombs Nairobi

Violence in Kenya, especially in Central province is getting out of control. The more disturbing thing is that MPs from the affected areas have all gone underground. We dont hear their loud voices anymore. It looks as if, they don’t want to hear or see eny evil as far as the criminal group Mungiki is concerned.

Yesterday there was a bomb blast outside ambassaduer hotel. I for one, dont want to hear this thing about islam fundamentalists, for they have nothing to do with the blast. The truth of the matter is that these are activities of the Mungiki council (Michuki, Karume, Kamada, Kabogo etc). They want to create a deception in order for us to believe that they are not the only criminals in town. In this way they will lead us to think of other types of criminality and criminals than Mungiki.

I also believe that they might be planning to kill a known politician whom they believe is a threat to their hold on power. Just check what happened before the assassination of JM. A bomb at a Nairobi hotel to create a diversion. Let be careful about the MKM. They are crude but dangerous.

Uhuru Kenyattas tricks will not wash

Im shocked hear of this rubbish from Uhuru Kenyatta and Kanu. Ati they want a 40-40-20 representation. What does this really mean? They seem to be negotiationg for power sharing too late in the day. I cant figure out how this is going to help Ruto or Uhuru for that matter in the nomination process. Afterall, the number of delegates are going to remain the same. I think that that the two have sensed defeat. Raila will be the ODM torch bearer followed by Kalonzo or Mudavadi. Ruto and Uhuru will as the say "pull the tail". In such an event Raila, Ruto and Mudavadi might get fat posts in the next government. Uhuru and company might be left out hence the nervousness. I however think that LDP should be tough with these fellows and tell them to follow the ODM way or hit the highway.

The other problem is that R has been making alot of inroads into Rutos terretory and this worries the latter. People in RVP have been endorsing R left rigt and center. I guess Uhuru ad co are aiming for the skies because they want to fall on the tree tops.

The good thing is that R did in the Prof of politics. Who is uhuru then.

ACHIENG ONEKO, RIP

He was the last man standing among the Kapenguria six. We salute him for his contribution in the fight for independence. Mungu akuweke mahali pema peponi

TRIBAL KIKUYU GOVERNMENT

President Kibaki has brought back tribalism in style. I must say that the amount of tribal ills committed by Kibaki in just 5 years are greater than what Daniel Arap Moi did in 24 years. Its such a shame. But why should I really care when the Kikuyu leadership does not think twice about kicking other tribes out of their jobs and replacing them with one of their own? Why do I care when almost half of the DCs are Kikuyus. Why should I care when some ministries board meeting are conducted in Kikuyu? Not because thats the official language but because no other tribe sits on the board. I care bacause Im hurt as a Kenyan. Im care because these gikuyu politics of yesteryear is bringing the country down to its knees. Oh! dont remind me of the fake economic figures. I really dont care. Just stop nepotism and corruption.

UHURU KENYATTA IS MUNGIKI NR. ONE

Im suprised that nobody has called Uhuru for question as per his relationship with Mungiki. All know that he heavily associated with group in the run up to the last elections. Even if he tried to distance himself from the group later on, he must surely know a thing or two about the criminal group. Fred Gumo says that "They supported Uhuru’s presidential bid in 2002. In the referendum, they were openly allowed to hold rallies attended by influential politicians from Central Province," They flatted with the Government during the referendum, how come they can all of a sudden be mysterious people who nobody knows.

The secrecy sorrounding the discussion of the sect on the part of the Kikuyu government is also sickening. Why must only kikuyu MPs discuss the Mungiki issue while all Kenyans are affected. The menace even though not present in eg Kakamega is felt there too. People are worried for they have relatives in the affected areas. The Mungiki problem is therefore, not a Kikuyu problem only.

People like Koigi Wamwere should be arrested forth with to help with investigation into this menace. But alas, we have a weak government by a weakling, that will never happen. Plus Koigi is Kikuyu.

KIBAKI MUST GO

The political atmosphere in Kenya is getting thicker by the day. Kibaki is trying by all means neccessary to look good so as to ecapture the presidenatial seat. He will be obviously leading Narck-K. With Tuju (his son) as his running mate (if Raila gets the ODM card).

The battlle is going to be tough and trecherous. Both ODM and Narc _K are deeply dug into their war trenches ready for the battle ahead. The word on evrbodys mouth is if Kibaki will survive the ODM onslaught, with Raila in the front line. What I hear on th eground is that he might not, given that he has no ground to campaign on. He keeps talking of 6 percent growth yet Kenyans are yet to feel the effect. He talks of free primary education yet children as studying under trees and classes meant for 40 student now contains 100 children. In otherwords, quality education has been thrown out of the window. Prices of common commodities are going up and the new constitution is nowhere in sight. Corruption has gone up rather than down.

Kibaki and co thinks that if they agree to minimum reforms, then they will give ODM an advantage. The jinx is that, with or without it ODM will win. '

I will predict without fear of contradiction that Raila will be president come 2008.

Cheats who got stuck

I was in Kisumu not long ago and was told by a taxi driver that some lovers had stuck together at an hotel near the main buss stop. At first I did not believe him but since we were on our way to Kondele, he decided to drive by the hotel the named lovers were stuck.

On reaching there, I was really amazed at the the number of people who had gathered around the hotel to see the spectacle. I guess there must have been at least 400 people. Still not wanting to believe the story, the taxi driver offered to take me into the hotel if I could part with 1000 shillings to bribe the waiters. I almost agreed but on thinking about what would meet my eyes, I decided against it.

I left Kisumu some few days later but everybody was convinced that the thing was true. Afterall the owner of the said hotel had just a few years back been caught stuck with someone else wife. He had to part with 1.5 million to be freed.
